How to specify Slalom Acoustics
Specifying acoustic solutions is about more than choosing a color or finish. The right acoustic panels can improve the comfort and performance of an interior while becoming an integral part of the design. With a wide range of shapes, finishes, colors, thicknesses, and acoustic performance options, Slalom Acoustics offers flexible solutions for walls, ceilings, and other architectural applications.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the key considerations when specifying Slalom Acoustics—from selecting the right product and finish to understanding NRC ratings, backing options, materials, installation, and lead times. Whether you are an architect, interior designer, specifier, or material librarian, this guide will help you confidently incorporate Slalom acoustic solutions into your next project.
1. Select your panel style
Slalom acoustic panels come in all kinds of shapes and sizes for both walls and ceilings. Large-scale panels are perfect for feature walls and can span big spaces quickly, while playful and irregular shapes let you create something truly unique.
2. Select a Finish
This is where you can make it your own. Choose from Slalom’s curated textile collection—Colorchart A includes Velvet, PETfabric, PETcolor, Trevira and two types of felt (wool or PET) or Colorchart B includes Boucle, Tweed and Spigato —or explore bio-based options like Bloom and Grass. For added warmth and authenticity, FSC-certified real wood veneers, called Woody, are also available.
3. Determine the NRC
Acoustic performance isn’t one-size-fits-all. Sometimes you’re working with an acoustic consultant and already have a target NRC. Other times, limited wall or ceiling space means choosing the highest rating available. And when you’re unsure, Slalom can help. We offer free acoustic space analysis to give you a clear starting point—and confidence in your specification.
4. Add Accessories
Enhance both performance and detail with Slalom’s optional accessories. Select panels can be paired with acoustic mattress backing in two thicknesses, allowing you to reach up to three NRC ratings using a single panel design. To complete the look, matching metal edge trim provides clean transitions, frames installations, and creates intentional joints while protecting exposed edges—resulting in a refined, durable finish.
